| Principal's Welcome |

Welcome to Bohlevale State School in the rapidly growing Northern Beaches suburbs of Townsville. This is a modern, progressive school with a long history and very proud traditions and I am most privileged to lead Bohlevale into 2010. Our school’s vision - Learning, Leading, Living! – signifies commitment to the holistic development of students academically, socially, emotionally and physically. I have high expectations that staff and students create a collaborative learning community so that Bohlevale continues to build student success. Explicit classroom teaching is supported by specialists to maximise individual results for all, from those who require learning support to the very able and gifted. There are many opportunities for students to showcase their special talents, as we actively promote participation in national academic competitions. Our school has a strong focus on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and our students have access to fully networked classrooms, computer labs and a state-of-the-art Resource Centre. Bohlevale’s sporting prowess has long been recognised. Current sporting programs include the innovative Athlete Development Program for identified gifted students, regular interschool sports competitions and a proud tradition of participation in carnivals. A school hall and the large covered play areas provide shaded sports activity areas. We are a SunSmart school. Instrumental music is offered to students free of charge, with expert teaching available in strings, brass, percussion and woodwind. Guitar lessons are also available on a fee-paying basis. There is an active student council; and a strong student leadership program which gives our young people the opportunity to develop life-long skills of influencing others in a positive way. At our school, we are committed to building a culture of caring. We are a You Can Do It school. This program addresses social and emotional learning, as it teaches confidence, organisation, getting along, persistence and resilience. School-wide Positive Behaviour Support is a new initiative for 2010. The whole school community has been involved in clearly stating the positive and productive behaviours we want our young people to demonstrate at all times. School-wide Positive Behaviour Support requires every member of the community to demonstrate pro-social and safe behaviours. Parents are welcome as classroom and playground volunteers and the Parents and Citizens Association is active and committed. After School Hours Care is available on the school site. We look forward to including you in our great school community and extend an invitation to inspect our facilities and talk with our friendly staff. With kind regards Loretta Swayn
