PERFORMANCE

Students at Bohlevale State School have a long history of involvement with Arts-based projects and endeavours. Bohlevale was one of the few Townsville schools to be involved with the Rotary Club of Townsville South West Mime Show in the 10 years of its existence enjoying success in various years.

In 2007 when the Rotary Club decided not to stage the Mime Show, Bohlevale students instead entered the Wakakirri National Story Festival [Story-Dance category] and were successful in winning a Silver Medal for their performance "Accidentally in Love". Photos of our fantastic performers can be seen in the Media Gallery and you can read about the Queensland results of the 2007 Wakakirri National Story Festival on their website.

Bohlevale students participated in the 2008 Wakakirri National Story Festival. Bohlevale's entry "We're All in This Together" was judged third overall along with All Souls and St Gabriel's College, Annandale SS and Kelso SS. Bohlevale also picked up two other awards: Most Creative Use of Reusable Materials in Sets, Props and/or Costumes and Best School in Public! Check out the Media Gallery to see our fantastic performers in costume.

The Wakakirri website has more information on this multi-faceted Arts Festival.

VISUAL ARTS

In 2005/2006 Bohlevale State School obtained funding through the Art Built-In Project - an Artist-in-Residence project managed jointly by Arts Queensland and Education Queensland. Recent refurbishments of B block at the front of the school had seen the construction of two courtyards with solid facades. Four mosaic panels were created by Bohlevale students assisted by the expertise of mosaic artist Claudia Williams and attached to the courtyard facades. The panels represent the four waterways after which the sports houses are named - Bohle River, Black River, Saunders Creek and Stoney Creek. Photos and more information can be found at the Art Built-In website.

MUSIC

Bohlevale students have participated in Music Count Us In in 2008 and 2009.  The aim is to have as many students singing the same song at the same time across Australia.  In 2009 Bohlevale attracted local media attention with a visit from an ABC camera crew.  View the video story
